Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling and Eric Dier Shock Outsiders To Make England World Cup Squad
It's that time of year once again, when a host of England players will be vying for a spot in the coveted World Cup squad.
Thomas Tuchel will already have a few seats filled with the likes of Harry Kane, Jordan Pickford and Declan Rice guaranteed their place if fit and available.
But there will be several spots up for grabs on the fringes of Tuchel's squad - and they might well be called upon in what will be the biggest World Cup in history.
However, according to the latest
England World Cup squad odds, some familiar names will unlikely make the cut.
Tuchel will officially name his final England World Cup squad on May 30 with 26 places available.
And it's safe to say the following five players will not be considered - despite having odds available on top UK betting sites.
1) Ross Barkley
Once considered one of England's brightest midfield prospects, Ross Barkley has found himself drifting out of the international picture over the years.
His last England appearance came in 2019 when he scored twice and also provided an assist in a 6-0 win over Bulgaria.
But his move to Chelsea stunted his development and saw Barkley drop out of the pool of midfielders under consideration for the England squad.
He's begun to find some regular minutes at Aston Villa this campaign under Unai Emery, who are still fighting for Champions League qualification as well as the Europa League trophy.
However, bookies are clearly confident that Barkley won't receive a surprise call-up to the England squad this summer.
Some UK betting sites have Barkley available at 100/1 to be in the England World Cup squad.
2) Raheem Sterling
There was a time when Raheem Sterling was considered one of the first names on the England teamsheet.
He was a regular in the starting line-up under Gareth Southgate when England made it to the final of Euro 2021.
But his last England appearance came at the end of 2022, and he's been out of the fold ever since.
The 31-year-old's drop off coincided with his move to Chelsea, where he made limited appearances over four years before a loan move to Arsenal.
Sterling is now plying his trade in the Dutch Eredivisie with Feyenoord and, like Barkley, looks certain not to be on the plane this summer.
He's also 100/1 with some UK betting sites to be a part of the England World Cup squad come May.
3) Eric Dier
Regarded as 'Mr Dependable' by Southgate for several years, Eric Dier has been unable to get back into the England squad since 2022.
He was once regarded as a future England captain and even wore the armband a few times in 2017 and 2018.
However, Dier's career stagnated after falling out of favour at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou.
He managed to secure a move to Bayern Munich in 2024, but he was let go the following year and moved to Monaco.
But the central defender has struggled to build up any momentum with injuries curtailing his campaign and he too looks extremely unlikely to make his England comeback any time soon.
Some UK betting sites have Dier at odds of 80/1 to make the England World Cup squad this summer.
