Is the Wrexham Kop Stand Finished and When Will It Open?

Wrexham Kop Stand

The Wrexham Kop Stand has been at the center of attention for fans since its 2023 demolition. The redevelopment of the Racecourse Ground ran into plenty of setbacks since then, and the project’s finally gaining momentum in 2026.

There’s now visible progress for the Kop at STōK Cae Ras, but years of delays and planning setbacks have left many wondering whether the stand will open as promised.

Is the Kop Finished at Wrexham?

No, the Wrexham Kop Stand is not finished yet. Construction is actively underway, and the Kop will be completed by the start of the 2027/28 season. Co-owner Rob McElhenney confirmed this timeline in a May 2026 interview.

Before Rob Mac’s statements, McLaren Construction had begun installing structural steelwork in May 2026. The Wrexham stadium expansion is quite visible to the local fans, but if you’re keeping up with the team through its Disney documentary, the progress can be easy to miss.

The new Wrexham stadium stand will add approximately 7,750 seats once planning permission for full capacity is approved. Currently, the club has approval for 5,500 seats. With eyes set on the Premier League and more fan support than ever, Wrexham could find itself appearing more frequently on daily odds boosts across betting markets.

When Will Wrexham's Kop Stand Open?

The Wrexham Kop Stand will open at the start of the 2027/28 season, which typically begins in early August 2027. Co-owner Rob McElhenney confirmed this target date in May 2026, telling Collider: "It's going to be ready for the start of the 2027/2028 season. It's going to be open for business, and that means butts in seats."

However, fans might be able to access portions of the stand before the full opening date. CEO Michael Williamson previously indicated that partial capacity could become available before early 2027.

Wrexham’s new Kop will meet UEFA Category 4 compliance standards. This classification allows the stadium to host major international fixtures. The stand's design includes safe standing sections, modern concourses, improved accessibility routes, upgraded media facilities, and enhanced hospitality areas.

Did Wrexham Get Money for the Kop?

Yes, Wrexham received £18 million in public funding from the Welsh Government to support the Wrexham Kop redevelopment. The funding announcement in December 2025 sparked controversy, but the investment reflects confidence in Wrexham's ability to generate economic activity and community benefits.

The total cost of the Wrexham stadium redevelopment will reach approximately £70 million. The £18 million government grant represents roughly 26% of the total cost.

The investment in Wrexham mirrors the trust in UK football's commercial health. Interest across all tiers remains strong, with newly licensed betting sites continuing to launch and expand their coverage of lower-league clubs as well.
