New Fantasy SPFL is Now Live for the 2024/25 Season

The new Scottish Premiership season is underway and with it comes a new round of SPFL Fantasy Football. If you’ve yet to select a team, there may be time to submit your squad, and catch up on those already involved.

After qualifying for Euro 2024, there is a depth of quality in the Scottish top flight, which is backed by the arrival of a number of overseas players. With so much talent to choose from, who should be in your squad?

Established Stars

The Scottish Premiership has significant backing from some of the biggest names in their respective industries. The league is sponsored by William Hill who have been familiar names on the high streets of the UK since the 1960s. The operator also has a huge online presence, and any William Hill casino review will confirm a diverse platform is in place, Their input is a testament to the quality of the SPFL and like this operator, there are many established stars taking part this season.

Lawrence Shankland was the leading goal scorer in the division last season, and he’s signed a new contract at Hearts following speculation of a move elsewhere. Behind Shankland in the scoring charts were Matt O’Riley of Celtic and Rangers’ James Tavernier.

In fantasy football, points are awarded across the pitch, but goal scorers are your most important picks, and all three players will need to be considered once again.

At the other end of the pitch, Rangers’ goalkeeper Jack Butland produced the most clean sheets last term. Such displays saw the player linked with a recall to the England squad, and Butland will be a key player for the Gers once again.

Zander Clark of Hearts and Dundee’s Trevor Carson also ranked highly for clean sheets last term. These established players will be included in many fantasy football teams in 2024/25, and they will be joined by some new summer signings.

New Arrivals

With Celtic’s Joe Hart having retired at the end of last season, the Bhoys have a new player between the posts. Experienced Danish international Kasper Schmeichel arrived from Anderlecht in the summer, and he celebrated the move by keeping a clean sheet against Kilmarnock on the opening day of the season.

Schmeichel is an English Premier League winner with Leicester City, and should be a reliable stopper for your fantasy team.

While champions Celtic have been active in the summer transfer window, great rivals Rangers have been the busier of the big two clubs. Manager Philippe Clement signed a new contract and he hoped that the arrival of several big signings would help his team to the title.

Gers fans may be excited to see Clinton Nsiala travel to Ibrox from AC Milan. The centre back is an exciting young prospect, but he may have to wait to get his chance in the first team. Another defender, Robin Propper, is an established player, and may get more game time following his move to Rangers from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente.

Fast Starters

It’s very early days, but the SPFL table had a familiar look to it after the first week of matches. Defending champions Celtic headed to the top of the ladder following that 4-0 win over Kilmarnock. The goals were shared around the team, with Reo Hatate and Nicolas Kuhn both on target. Those two players have been productive at times and are additional candidates for your fantasy squad.

Kasper Schmeichel would have been pleased with his clean sheet in that opening game, while Celtic’s great rivals Rangers also kept their goal intact. A 0-0 draw away to Hearts is a respectable result against a strong side, even though it sees the Gers lose early ground in the table.

St Mirren also impressed with their 3-0 opening win over Hibernian. Former Oxford United midfielder Oisin Smyth joined the club in the summer, and he had a debut to remember with two of St Mirren’s goals.

It’s early days, but those opening results have laid down a marker at the start of the SPFL campaign. Fantasy squads have been submitted, but there’s room for transfers and substitutions, with those early encounters offering much to consider.
